PRESENT: Trustees: Paul Ehrlich, Ann M. Berger, Ann Scolnick, Harriet Spitzer and Chuck Rosner
Director: Joanne Adam; Assistant Directors: Kristine Casper and Teresa Schwind
Mr. Ehrlich called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
Ms. Scolnick made a motion, seconded by Ms. Berger, to approve the Library Board Minutes of March 17, 2015. The vote was unanimous.
Ms. Zirpolo was in attendance to present the Friends report. She stated they are applying for sales tax exemption; asking patrons to donate only 4 boxes of books at any one time; and they are sending books for veteran groups to L.I. Cares. Annual dues will be increased to $5.00. The Friends are interested in sponsoring more library programs for all departments.
A period of public expression was held.
A motion was made by Ms. Berger, seconded by Ms. Spitzer, that Warrant #23, March End of Month, totaling $424,222.29 is paid. The vote was unanimous.
Ms. Berger made a motion, seconded by Mr. Ehrlich, that Warrant #24, April Disbursements, totaling $285,687.44 is paid. The vote was unanimous.
Ms. Berger made a motion, seconded by Mr. Ehrlich, that Warrant #25, Medicare Reimbursements –Q1, totaling $15,681.35 is paid. The vote was unanimous.
Therese Nielsen, Department Head of Adult & Reference Services, was in attendance to present her report. She briefly outlined some future plans for her department: programming ideas, book discussion groups. The Friends were thanked for sponsoring some programs this past year.
Ms. Scolnick made a motion, seconded by Ms. Spitzer, to accept the Personnel Report for April, 2015. The vote was unanimous.
Assistant Director Kristine Casper briefly reviewed her report and discussed her recent trip to the Innovative Conference in Minnesota. She thanked the Board for enabling her and Candace Hope to attend.
Assistant Director Theresa Schwind reviewed her report and added that patrons have responded positively to the information she has provided regarding local history. She is working with the Business Manager on matters related to billing and invoices and thanked the Friends for providing the refreshments at the Huntington Civil War reception.
Library Director Joanne Adam briefly reviewed the Government Efficiency Plan to be voted upon by the Board.
Ms. Berger made a motion, seconded by Ms. Scolnick, to authorize the Huntington Public Library to participate in the Suffolk County Library Efficiency Plan. The vote was unanimous.
Ms. Adam reviewed her report and briefly talked about several other items including the Navigating Your Community Fair to be held May 16th, the use of the Station Branch meeting rooms, the July 4th holiday, the upgrading of cameras and the option to offer discounted group tickets for various attractions.
A second period of public expression was held.
At 7:30 p.m., a motion was made by Ms. Spitzer, seconded by Ms. Berger, to enter Executive Session to discuss the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The vote was unanimous.
At 8:30 p.m., Mr. Ehrlich reconvened the meeting.
At 8:31 p.m., a motion was made by Mr. Ehrlich, seconded by Ms. Spitzer, to adjourn the meeting. At 8:32 p.m., the meeting was adjourned.
