All Cities Branch of the National League of American Pen Women
May 1, 2016 – June 18, 2016. Artists Reception & Performance: Saturday, May 14, 1:30-4:00 pm
Our All Cities Branch of the National League of American Pen Women (NLAPW) is one of several chapters that were founded in the state of New York. The National League of American Pen Women has branches or chapters in every state and a Pen Arts Building in Washington, D.C. Its headquarters, the Pen Arts Building, is located in the lovely Dupont Circle area of Washington. The national league has a national board of directors with representatives elected to two year positions. The national board meets quarterly and directs league activity from Washington. The national charter governs the individual branches.
The league was founded to promote women’s professional activities in the Visual Arts, Literature (prose and poetry) and Musical Composition. It is the goal of the national league and each of the branches, to bring women’s accomplishments in the above areas, to the attention of each community where the branch and its members is located. In this way, the individual’s work can be seen, read, published and performed in the community. The All Cities Branch has many poetry readings during the year, sponsors a high school poetry contest yearly and has many art exhibitions during each year.
The art exhibition has as its title “Personal Visions”. Each of the participating artists will work with that topic and interpret it in their chosen medium of photography, oil, watercolor, pastel, pen and ink and mixed media. The poets will be reading their work at the reception. We are excited about exhibiting our work and reading our poetry for the Huntington community. We would like to thank the Huntington Public Library and Laurene Tesoriero, the Art Gallery Coordinator for their help.
