“An Artist’s Journey”

July 1, 2015 – August 23, 2015
Artist Reception: Saturday, July 11th, 3:00-5:30pm

Art has been a part of my life’s journey for as long as I can remember. It began in high school when I was an art student and won awards for poster design and illustration. I have since worked in the business of art for a print shop, and as a sign painter, a cartoonist, a graphic designer, and as a freelance illustrator. I have also worked for McGraw-Hill designing educational books, films, posters and then, as art director for Newsday for many years.

In 2001, I decided to dedicate myself to oil painting full time. I joined the Art League of Long Island and took a plein aire workshop under the tutelage of Bill Merklin. Painting “en plein aire” has since become my passion.

As a lifelong resident of Long Island, I have found inspiration in many of its locations. I have always been drawn to Long Island’s bays and shores, capturing the color and light of its ever-changing shades and moods. I find myself drawn to the challenge of recreating on canvas those images and stories of life on our beautiful island.

Painting outdoors keeps me connected to nature. It is my chapel, my special place, my solitude, and my teacher from which I am forever learning.
